The Long Road

We started out at about 9:30am Central Time today in Texas and are now settled in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Carlsbad New Mexico.  It was a long drive, lots of rain, and interesting new scenery.  We spent the day looking for cactus out of the window, and tarantulas crossing the street. Doug is having flashbacks from his family's US tour back in 86. The girls did not want to eat sandwiches for lunch again that they actually waited until we found a populated enough place that had a restaurant, that we did not have at home (No McDonalds, or DQ for us). We spent 3 hours  in West Texas only seeing one gas station and no restaurants!  Thanks to technology (i.e. cell phone apps) I was able to locate a little family owned restaurant called Pepitos Café in Pecos Texas.  We walked into a old brick building with paint coming off of the walls and very old furniture; however, it had surprisingly good Mexican food.  Maddie opted for spaghetti- LOL! About 30 minutes from New Mexico Hailey started crying, for no reason.  I felt so bad- I guess she is home sick and misses our dog Harley.  She did snap out of it when we got to a gas station and she bought some chocolate to eat- what woman isn't cheered up by chocolate.  When we made it to the New Mexico State line we stopped to take a picture and I was attacked by an ant (6 bites on my foot- ouch!).  We made it into Carlsbad by 6:45pm Mountain Time and after some set up and showers are relaxing before bed.  Doug continues to deal with his back and me with  my cold.  Hopefully we will feel better tomorrow. This is starting to remind me of a National Lampoon Vacation!
