Petroglyphs and Native Americans

It was another beautiful and uncharacteristically cool day in Albuquerque today.  First we went to the Petroglyphs.  We hiked up the Boca Negra Canyon, it was amazing!  Seeing communications/ drawings that were made from Native Americans over 700 years ago was almost unbelievable.  The trail through the canyon lead us up a mile long, and very high portion of mountain. We also saw a long tailed weasel. Me, being the scardy cat of the group, was not sure if I could make it to the top, but with the encouragement of my family, I did it!  The view was incredible, it was a great time for everyone.

When we finished the canyon we drove to the visitors center and got information on some other trails to see more petroglyphs.  After the girls bought more treasures for their boxes, we went to Piedres Marcadas and hiked another mile and saw many more petroglyphs. We had a great time walking and talking and goofing around as a family.  Hailey was calling the petroglyphs old fashioned texting.

When we were through we went to the Pueblo Indian Museum.  We had lunch in the café and had a chance to see a few exhibits before it closed.  We actually were exploring the pottery exhibit when security started turning the lights out on us- LOL!  We all wish we had more time.  What we did see was nice.

We did go into town to try and do some shopping but it seemed everything closes early so we just went back to the campground and went swimming.  The girls loved having some time to swim and Doug and I relaxed in the hot tub for a while and then watched them play games.

Now hopefully we will all be able to get some sleep tonight.  I keep having issues with this stupid cough.  I did get new medicine, so hopefully it will work.  Tomorrow we are having breakfast with Doug's Uncle Wayne, who lives here in Albuquerque.  Then we are ready to head to Oklahoma.
