Wayne told us about an Artisan jewelry and craft shop the we should stop by before leaving New Mexico. It was called Utility Shack, and it was awesome. Everything in the store was authentic Native American made artisan quality jewelry. All of us found something we couldn't possibly live without. Doug got a sterling and turquoise ring and a tie tack. The girls each got earrings and Hailey bought a beautiful turquoise necklace that was from their estate collection. I found a gorgeous necklace and bracelet set, that was incredible. I absolutely love it!!!
We then headed out to Oklahoma, at one point while still in New Mexico we were at 7000 feet above sea level (Doug thought that was cool). It was another long drive, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma is pretty boring to drive through. All we saw for miles was farm land and wind turbines. We actually drove a 30 mile stretch of them, those things are huge! Anyway, Doug drove and drove and drove, until he remembered that Cadillac Ranch was somewhere close to where we were. I quickly googled and found it, We were only 6 miles away so we took the girls to see it. Hailey was her usual thirteen year old unimpressed, then overly concerned about everyone spray painting graffiti. Maddie on the other hand was awe struck and grabbed a hot pink paint can to join in the action. Unfortunately it had rained recently so there was a lot of mud and both kids got their shoes covered. Oh well, it was cool to see it in person. Both Doug and I have seen it on television. It was a great diversion from an otherwise boring trip.
Then we were back on the highway headed to Oklahoma City. It seemed like a never ending trip. Hailey got very silly and couldn't sit still at one point she had her feet on Doug's head rest.
We finally stopped at Sonic for dinner and Hailey was again complaining. This time her butt hurt so I got out of the car and tickled her, then she ran around a bit. I spent the rest of the time in the car trying to entertain Doug, who was driving so much. I was reading him jokes off of Face Book, and reading to him news articles all from my phone.
We finally made it to Oklahoma City, and are now settled in a Loves truck stop with a glass of wine. All in all it was a good day for everyone.
